Painted and embroidered print of a street I lived on briefly. This is a small section from a larger block I’d carved and printed while living in North Philly.  I’m still not done with this yet and i have no idea what to do with it once I am…

About five years ago I created a print from a sketch I did of a student I worked with. The print was just practice, I wasn’t pleased with the outcome, so I put the block away and left it.

Recently I’ve been reprinting old blocks and working into them with paint and embroidery. I spent today adding some embroidery to a version of the print I had on fabric and this time I’m much happier with the results. It’s still not true to the drawing, and it makes her look older than she was, but it feels good to have revisited this portrait.
